HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO EVERY ONE!!!
NOVEMBER 26, 2011

Last evening my wife and I had the pleasure of joining Tressa Jacobs for a journey to Pleasant Hill Missouri to take in the Big Creek Opry Show.  We enjoyed a fantastic show and had an exra treat to learn that the special guest was our friend, Larry Smith.  Larry had brought along another friend, Gordon Riley for our additional pleasure.  I believe it was only the second time tthat I have heard Gordon play the Dobro.  Much to everyone's pleasure he played several songs on the Dobro while backing the fantastic singing of Larry Smith.  In addition he got out his beautiful Gretsch guitar to play while singing his self-written song, "Pickin' My Finger To The Bone".    We went home later talking about what a great show we had seen.

BK LOUNGE

I admit that when the band hit the first notes of "Gordon's Boogie # !", I was holding my breath. But, alas! For the first time in three or four weeks, the sound system sounded fine and continued to function without fail all evening.  What a relief!!   I did not get the playlist  (names of songs performed) but everyone enjoyed the efforts of all band members.  The great Baritone voice of Ron Fine and the Beautiful singing of our friend, Annie Little always helps make a great show. I will make every effort to ge a play list of next weeks show for you.

Please don't forget the big dance coming up on Saturday, December 10 at Knights of Columbus in Lawrence.  Also, we will return on Friday night, December 16 and do it again.  Cost is only $7 per person and the dance will run from 8:00PM until Midnight.  So, come on out and enjoy it with us.

We are also pleased to announce our big New Years Eve event at the American Legion at 7500 W 75.  A Finger food buffet begining at 7:00PM; dancing at 8:30 and a champagne toast at midnight followed by biscuits and gravy.  All for $25 per person.  Reservations required, contact Gordon Riley for reservations.  They are selling out fast so be sure to get your name in.

  BK LOUNGE

Once again, we opened to a very nearly full house.  There was a wonderful group of people on hand for our band. The Stranger Creek Band opened as usual with their theme written
by Lead Guitar player Gordon Riley, "Gordon's Boogie #1".  Lead Singer, Larry Dean quickly followed with Ricky Skagg's "Hiway 40 Blues"

It was then that our sound went south.  I did not get any more of the song titles during the first half because of working to get the sound back as it should be.  We attempted
several fixes but none worked.  Then lo and behold, standing off to the side of the band I saw the problem at the same time Larry Dean looked down and saw it, too.  A very simple fix
and we were up and going again.

We were working  just in time to hear an amazing new guest that Garry and Mary had found at a family picnic.  This pretty young lady (pictured below) whose name is Maggie Marx is   only 14 years old but has the one of the strongest voices I have ever heard.  I'm still not sure but I think the title of her song was "I Want To Be A Cowboy's Sweetheart" and when
she began to yodel, she got an immediate standing ovation from the audience. When she finished her song, she got another standing ovation from the very appreciative audience.
We certainly hope to see a lot of this amazing youngster in the future.

We opened the second half with Pat Uzell playing the bass while Mary took a well earned break to mingle with the audience.  Larry Dean started the half with the popular line dance,
  "Boot Scootin' Boogie"

Then he called Jerome Oberle to bring his all-button accordion up to entertain the crowd with "In Heaven There Is No Beer" and follow it with the beautiful "Let Me Call You
Sweetheart".   Next, Ron Fine was brought front and center to sing the old Ernest Tubb song, "Fraulein" and follow it with "Kentucky Waltz".  It was good to see and hear Art Covey
back again to sing "There's Still A Lot Of Love In San Antone" and "Rebel Soldier".  Gordon Riley moved to the microphone to give us a couple of vocals on "Truck Drivin' Man"
  and "Roly Poly".

Annie Little came front and center next to sing "Losing You" and "Why Did I Ever", both songs written by our own Garry Bichelmeyer.  Following Annie  was our Willie Nelson
sound- like, Dave Purcell with "A Once In A Lifetime Thing"and a song written by his Father, "I Wonder How Many There Would Be"

It was great to see Rodney Stean back to perform Elvis' "Little Sister".  Larry Dean returned with Chuck Berry's "Johhny B. Goode" and Garry returned to close the show with the            popular "Kansas City"

We look forward to seeing everyone Friday night at the Bichelmeyer Opry at Bichelmeyer's Steakhouse in Tonganoxie KS,

Thanks to Dave and Jean Hightower for the photos below.

  BICHELMEYER'S STEAKHOUSE OPRY

THOSE OF YOU WHO GOT OUT TO THE BICHELMEYER'S STEAKHOUSE OPRY IN TONGANOXIE FRIDAY EVENING SAW A WONDERFUL SHOW.  I DID NOT WORK THE SOUND FOR
THE STRANGER CREEK BAND SO DID NOT GET TO KEEP THE PLAY LIST AS I TRY TO DO. ALSO. BECAUSE I WAS OUT IN THE FRONT ROOM WITH MY FAMILY EATING DINNER, I
MISSED THE OPENING ACT, JULIE HOF AND RODGER LITTLE (REKINDLED). JULIE IS ANNIE LITTLES DAUGHTER AND RODGER IS HER NEPHEW.  LIKE I SAID I MISSED THE
PERFORMANCE BUT I HAVE HEARD JULIE BEFORE AND I HEARD SEVERAL COMPLIMENTS ON THEIR PERFORMANCE.

I WILL SAY THE STEAKHOUSE WAS FULL TO CAPACITY, STANDING ROOM ONLY FOR THE FANS AND VERY LITTLE ROOM FOR DANCING.  I THINK EVERYONE INVOLVED WAS
VERY SURPRISED AND HAPPY WITH THE TURNOUT TO CELEBRATE OWNER MATT BICHELMEYER'S BIRTHDAY. PLEASE WATCH THIS SITE AND I AM SURE YOU WILL SEE
  ANOTHER UPCOMING SHOW OUT THERE.

THERE WILL NOT BE A BLOG THE NEXT TWO WEEKS BECAUSE MY WIFE AND I PLAN TO JOURNEY TO IOWA TO VISIT FAMILY.  WE SEEM TO HAVE AN EXCEPTIONALLY LARGE
NUMBER OF SERIOUSNESS ILLNESSES IN BOTH FAMILIES AT THIS TIME.  WE HAVEN'T SPENT MORE THAN ONE DAY AT A  TIME UP THERE IN SEVERALY YEARS AND WE
BOTH FEEL WE SHOULD DO THAT NOW.

SO, WITH THAT SAID WE ARE PLANNING TO BE BACK AT THE BK LOUNGE FOR THE FEBRUARY 14 SHOW.

EVERYONE STAY SAFE AND WELL TIL WE SEE YOU ALL AGAIN!!
